Blog #12 Website Work

This tool is essentially a way to force your hand into having a professional presence online. You may already be doing that (LinkedIn for example; Facebook only if you’re using it to promote yourself as a professional). This could also facilitate you getting a job! Most employers in most professions do a web-search of a future employee. If that employee has a website, that is the first search that generally comes up. THIS is what you want your future boss to see (for an idea of what they'll find, Google yourself!)

URL & QR Code for your FINAL website is due by Wednesday, July 12th
Peer evals of websites are due by Friday at midnight; either put in your student folder OR email to me.

Blog #11 Article Thoughts

This is a classic example of synthesis, the highest form of learning. Share how your article work learning (researching it, gathering information, writing the article, making APA citations) is going and what issues you’re having. How is your research going? Are you finding plenty of materials for your article? What difficulties are you having? What are you learning as a result of this article? What are you enjoying about this process? Remember, you can be innovative with your articles and do like what Hicks did in his text: put QR codes in the margins with links to videos that add to your research. Be creative but remember this is research/evidence based!

Blog #10 Research Project Thoughts

Review the Potential Research Topics list on Moodle and in our Final Projects folder). What are your top two choices? You will each have to select something different, so make your case on this blog for why you want the two topics you’ve chosen. I will then verify what your topic for your Final Article will be by Thursday, July 6th

Blog #9 Ch. 6 Ziemke

In Chapter 6, Ziemke shows many ways to teach connected learning:

  • Building Reading Communities (more specific ideas under this umbrella)
  • Digital Discussions (much like this one!...but other more specific ideas under that umbrella)
  • Inquiry (more specific ideas under the umbrella)
Tell me what of these tools you would like to or plan to incorporate in your future class. Choose at least one per section if possible, but the more, the better!

Remember, digital literacy is here to stay. Two of you made comments about how it's not always a good thing and that the more kids are on their phones, maybe we should teach less, not more. That would be a little like saying, "Well everyone has a car, so we don't need to teach people how to drive." Just because they have phones and devices doesn't mean we shouldn't teach them how to use them. It actually means it is more important than ever. We can teach them about netiquette. Better yet, I love to show them the video of what looking down at their phones is doing to their necks/spinal column. For example, did you know that if you bend your neck down with your chin within 3 inches of your chest, it's the equivalent of having a bowling ball on the back of your neck? Over time, it causes serious kyphosis and long-term effects can result in early onset arthritis...so even when on devices, look up! Every time I share this in classes, you can see folks straighten and stop looking down as much!)

I had originally said to post by Wednesday, but I didn't make it live in time...sorry! Post by Saturday July 1 at noon and respond by Sunday, July 2 at midnight. Also don't forget to go back and post and respond on any past blogs you haven't. These digital conversations are really important! :-)
