Blog #10 Research Project Thoughts

Review the Potential Research Topics list on Moodle and in our Final Projects folder). What are your top two choices? You will each have to select something different, so make your case on this blog for why you want the two topics you’ve chosen. I will then verify what your topic for your Final Article will be by Thursday, July 6th

  1. How will technology change our lives in twenty years?
How is digital learning going to change schools and education?

These are the two that really stood out to me. I am interested in how technology will change in the future because it has already changed so much from even 5 years ago, and now. It is scary to think how it may change, but also very interesting to me. I question different things a lot and always wonder what life will be like in the future. This would be my first choice, if possible!

My next choice is also very interesting to me because that is going to be my career. I am going to be a teacher very soon and it makes me wonder how things will change for me and my students, more than it already has!

    1. I really liked the first question you chose. In the next few years, we will get to see the transformation of industries, lifestyles and jobs. The potential scope of technology is infinite.

    2. I think the second question is very intriguing, and it is fascinating to think about how digital learning is going to change the school and learning. I think digital learning is already adding another layer to the tradition education system, which involved a teacher giving lectures to a bunch of students at fixed time. One problem with the traditional teaching system is that all students might not learn the same way and at the same pace. But technology solves this problem by providing different platforms such as video clips to reach out all learners. Another interesting question would be if technology would reach a point to figure the best teaching system and pace out for all different learners and teach each student individually.

  2.     What is the most important new technology for solving world problems?
What are new ways people can use technology to change the world?

I would love to discuss these two questions because I am interested in and would love to know more about the new technology that many scientists are trying to invent to convert solar energy into clean fuel. Scientist have been trying to find a renewable energy resource that can offset the need to burn fossil fuels and can supply to the world energy demand. It turns out that the sun provides an access of energy to our planet each day, and all we need is to invent a new technology/device that can convert sunlight into fuel. For this reason, I would love to research more about this topic and discuss how this potentially new technology could solve the energy crisis and environmental problems that we are facing today.

    1. Wow, this would be interesting! If I had these topics, I would gear it more to teaching but I really like how you geared your topic choices to what you are interested in!

    2. Your second topic really stood out to me. Advancement in technology has definitely made our life so much easier but not many of us reflect on if it is affecting us positively or negatively. I am interested in learning how people can use the technology in the right way to bring about a positive outcome.

  3. 1. What are the long- term effects of living in a technology world? Are these mostly negative or positive?
The reason why I chose this topic is to find out if the positive effects outweigh the negative effects. Advancement in technology has definitely made our life easier but I believe that even though long term effects of technology can be progressive, it always comes with a price. We are the deciders and we need to be able to choose how to use it right.
    5. Will governments like China continue to be able to control citizens' access to the internet and social media?
Not many people know about the history of Tibet (I am ethnically Tibetan) and how it was once an independent country until China decided to invade Tibet in 1950. It wasn’t until 2011 when I first realized how China’s control over their citizens’ access to social media and internet in general has brainwashed them. I was shocked to learn from one of my Chinese friends that she had never heard of the conflict before and she was unaware of the self-immolation that’s still taking place. I chose this topic because it will be interesting to learn why they are doing it and what are their motives behind the strip media censorship.

    2. When I think about how the modern technology world can affect our lives, I think about how the advancement of medicine has affected our lives. Advancement of medicine has improved the quality of our lives to a no extent even though it can cause problems when used the wrong way. This makes me believe that technology will bring more positive effect than negative effects.
